The All Kerala Private College Teachers' Association (AKPCTA) was formed on December 21, 1958 at St' Albert's College, Ernakulam, as a service organization with strong democratic, secular and socialist foundations .P C Joseph (St' Thomas College, Pala) and V R Subhramanium (St' Thomas College, Thrissur) were elected as the Founder President and General Secretary of the Association respectively. Evolving from the fervour of the age, the association has ever since remained an icon of strength, pride and honour of the private (aided) college teachers of Kerala. It shares the legacy of instilling values that inculcate social development and sensitivity in tune with the landmark progressive policies of the state. AKPCTA has organised many revolutionary and path breaking struggles to protect and enhance the terms of service as well as the academic environment, both for teachers and students. These struggles include the strikes and other forms of protests for parity with the government college teachers, for Direct Payment, for incorporating service terms of the private college teachers in the University of Kerala Act and for salary as prescribed by UGC. The association has always been actively partaking of and creatively contributing to the academic and every other aspect of the higher education sector both within the state and the nation as a whole. AKPCTA, since its inception, is committed to teach and protect progressive ideals and norms in the field of higher education. AKPCTA is a dedicated constituent of the AIFUCTO (All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisation) and has enthusiastically joined in its struggles against commoditization and saffronisation of higher education in particular and against the exploitation and authoritarian measures of the respective national regimes. The organization continues to be a proactive presence not only in the higher education sector, but also in the social and intellectual milieu of the state.
