Name

The name of the Association shall be “The All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association,” hereinafter referred to as AKPCTA.

Office

The Central Office of the AKPCTA shall be at the premises owned by AKPCTA at Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the State of Kerala.

Jurisdiction

The jurisdiction of the AKPCTA shall extend to all Aided Colleges situated within the State of Kerala.

Vision

  • to organise Aided College Teachers within the State of Kerala with a view to securing them just and equitable service conditions, improved social and economic status, indispensable academic rights and also to inspire them to strive for equity, access and standards in education;
  • to instil in the academic community in the state the constitutional values of socialism, democracy, secularism, spirit of enquiry and scientific temper;
  • to promote a corporate feeling and spirit of co-operation among its members;
  • to further the cause of higher education;
  • to help create and organise public opinion on questions of higher education;
  • to encourage and organise the study of educational problems with special reference to teaching at the university level;
  • to establish and maintain among its members the right standard of professional conduct and work;
  • to secure to Aided College Teachers adequate representation in the legislative, executive and advisory bodies of the State, the authorities of the Universities in the State and institutions affiliated to or subordinate to such universities;
  • to develop and promote feelings of fraternity among the College Teachers in particular and the teachers and employees of all categories in general; and
  • to federate with other trade unions and service sector organisations both within and outside the state and on an international level as well to further the cause of education, democracy, secularism, socialism and such larger interests of the people and the nation.

Mission

With a view to implementing the above Vision the AKPCTA may:

  • federate or associate itself or cooperate with other organisations and institutions with similar or allied aims within India or abroad;
  • publish pamphlets, periodicals, bulletins, books and monographs;
  • organise seminars, symposia, and undertake similar academic activities;
  • produce and distribute documentaries, movies and other visual media materials;
  • host websites, blogs, online channels and undertake such digital and online activities;
  • mobilise the aided college teachers in particular and the academic community in the state in general for democratically organised collective expression of dissent, campaigns, agitations and such other actions;
  • purchase, hire, take on lease or otherwise acquire all kinds of property, movable or immovable, which may be deemed necessary for achieving the aims and objects and sell, mortgage or pledge as security or otherwise dispose off any such property;
  • take loans or otherwise borrow money on such securities as may be decided upon from time to time by the State Council of the AKPCTA;
  • deposit in banks or invest in securities such funds of the AKPCTA as are not immediately required;
  • organise co-operative mutual benefit schemes and to institute co-operative societies that cater to the welfare of the academic community in the state; and
  • undertake all possible legitimate steps or measures or such other lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the vision and mission.
